Consultations

Through my recent practice and consultations with Caverly, I’ve come to truly believe that only through experience can we know what is possible. I’ve heard this countless times before, but never really got it until now. It’s not Caverly’s words and it’s not relying on some book or piece of information that has allowed me feel freedom, it is through practice and through trusting my experience in each moment that I have been able to see what is possible.

~Laura, State Employee

I have been able to let go of some of the burdens I have been carrying for years. I am developing more compassion for myself and all life. Caverly’s wisdom has given me a new perspective on life! In our consults we discuss whatever is on my mind and, through dialogue, chants, and guided visual imagery, Caverly gives me tools to work with it. Caverly’s nonjudgmental manner allows me to open myself up without any fear. I always leave the consult with new insight about myself, and specific guidelines for practice until the next session. I have learned a lot about how my mind works—what my karmic wiring is. Together, we look at assumptions and projections I make. I have learned that we cause our own suffering and, with practice, we can lead ourselves to our own freedom.

~Joyce, Biology Professor

Practicing meditation and mindfulness has made a difference in my life.  I feel more connected to life but nothing has really changed except my perspective.
The consultations help me see what I am having difficulty seeing and point me in directions that deepen and widen my experience of practice. I looked at different practices and places to practice but I found that One House of Peace gives me guidance and support that works for me and provides me with a way to find what I was seeking.  I am most grateful to have found One House of Peace.

~Margaret Johnson, Attorney

Caverly, our phone conversation gave me the chance to take my situation and hand it over to you for a moment. Then, with your guidance, I was able to use that as an opportunity to see what I was facing from new angles, fresh perspective. Bringing awareness to what was going on and addressing it with your help has put me on a path, when I was too stuck to see a path before. Thank you!

~Courtney, Business Owner

I have been seeking change or shift in the way I move through the world for some time. I finally arrived at a place where I knew if it didn’t begin soon, it would never happen. My private sessions with Caverly provide a quiet time for personal exploration and a chance to dial into my inner chatter and set it free!

~Carol, former CEO

Having someone experienced in meditation to discuss what changes were occurring within me was invaluable. I could be open and honest and not worry about being judged. It was an immense relief to discover that what was going on with me was all a normal part of a meditation practice. The sessions helped me deepen my commitment to practice.

~Kim, Realtor

I started consultations with Caverly after attending my first few meditation classes. While I loved the class format and discussions, I had lots of questions that I wanted to ask without monopolizing the group time. The consultation time with Caverly was the answer…all the revelations and ideas I have during practice are able to be talked about each week in depth. Caverly helps me see more clearly and more quickly how much my own mind creates obstacles — obstacles that aren’t there when I am practicing. Having the consultation time is invaluable for deepening my practice.

Classes and Workshops

I was amazed at Caverly’s insights and charismatic manner. Caverly has led me to discover parts of myself I never knew existed, and has helped me to see a world of new possibilities for me. Through One House of Peace, I am learning how to focus my awareness, and begin to see what is going on inside of me.

~Joyce, Biology Professor

Caverly offers a fresh new perspective on accepting ourselves wholeheartedly, just as we are, encouraging us to let go of our endless habitual scripts and open to the realm of possibility. She presents that the voices in our minds are not as real as we often imagine them to be. She guides us in opening to the possibility that underneath our endless chattering minds, if we are simply willing to turn our attention inward and stay in this present moment, we may understand with great insight, a truth that is inherent in all of us, a truth with no story at all.

~Kim, Service Worker

Learning to meditate with Caverly at One House of Peace has been a life changing experience. I had previously learned a few simple types of meditation in college and I found it challenging. I remember my third meditation with One House of Peace so clearly because it was the day I really understood what an Awareness Practice would bring to my life: freedom.

~Samantha, Business Owner

Growing up I always had a vision of what “perfect” was. “Perfect” had a white wedding dress, a white picket fence, a handsome husband, nice cars, great kids and June Cleaver dinners.  I swept any bad moments under the rug and kept moving forward in my quest for perfection.  Ultimately nothing was genuine.  I was busy trying to be a person who does not exist in real life.  A friend of mine told me about One House of Peace. It is the most wonderful gift I have ever received.

Meditation is the most incredible tool one could ever have – you can use it anywhere, anytime. It helps you to be clear, centered and aware of who you truly are and what you truly want in the present moment – all in the most loving, compassionate way possible. I’ve realized that you learn from the hard stuff as well as the wonderful.

~Rosemarie, Aesthetician

I always walk away uplifted, with greater knowledge and new tools. My (non-Buddhist) spiritual practice is deepened through the meditation instruction and practice I receive in her classes.

~Lillian, Policy Analyst at Nonprofit Association

Caverly instructs in a way that makes spiritual practice, including meditation, accessible. With respect to individual consultations, she is clear, dispassionate, and nonjudgmental in reflecting back to you what is being discussed, i.e., what you bring with you. In my experience, it is a rare opportunity to question all our assumptions, including the assumption of who we are, in a manner that is helpful. In my experience, in that process lies inner freedom and natural action.

~Lan, Attorney

I had wanted to try meditation for the physical benefits—lower blood pressure, etc. I had no idea it would change my life spiritually, emotionally and intellectually. I had no idea there was so much going on in my mind about which I was unaware.

Caverly has led me, and continues to lead me, to question many of the assumptions I make about who I am, what I should be doing in my life. Thanks to her, a year and a half ago I began an exciting new journey that I hope to continue for the rest of my life.

Retreats

With Caverly’s masterful guidance, I learned how to move through this world in an entirely different way. The weekend was a blend of nurturing all aspects of mind, body and soul, including delectable meals straight from the garden cooked with tender loving care. The experience was none other than transforming…I was able to go inwards and discover my own purpose in life.  I am filled with gratitude that this opportunity came my way and look forward to future retreats sponsored by One House of Peace!

~Teresa, ASL Interpreter

I love group guided discussions with Caverly because just hearing others speak their experience you find your own reflected back to you. Our interconnectedness as human beings is revealed in these moments and compassion for all around you is born or nurtured.

Peace in Schools

Last January, Caverly came to Sacramento High School to lead a stress workshop for staff members involved in the Staff Wellness Competition. The hour-long workshop was invaluable for the staff members who struggle with the long workday and high-pressure nature of a teaching position at Sac High.

Caverly centered the workshop on the important quality of presence and mindfully focusing our attention. She led us through techniques for a sitting meditation and led us through a 5-minute practice session. Every staff member walked away with a new, concrete skill they could utilize both at home and throughout the workday.

The staff members had nothing but wonderful things to say about the session: one explained they had never once given themselves those few moments of clarity before and they felt entirely renewed. Another teacher discussed how difficult it was to be present with her students and how this new skill could make her a much better role model and teacher. Yet another staff member articulated a sense of calm that she had never felt before. All walked away with a vibrant and infectious energy.

We were so grateful to have Caverly come to our campus. One teacher invited Caverly back to do a workshop with her students before the CSTs [standardized tests]. The resource ‘Peace in Schools’ is able to provide can truly transform the performance and well-being of staff members and students alike.

~Jessica Steele, HealthCorps Coordinato, Sacramento Charter High School

I would like to start by saying how impressed I was with Caverly. She was engaging and kept students on track. She asked many thoughtful questions of the students. She was great at steering the conversation and redirecting the student’s comments to stay on topic. The “so called” disruptive students were not disruptive because she redirected them so gently that they automatically stayed on task. Caverly was thoughtful and considerate with her questions and answers, which kept the pace of her lesson easy for student to buy in. She is relevant to kids and professional. She was energetic, compassionate and interesting. Caverly is a bright spot in education.

~H. Bruce Alton, Athletic Director Benson Health Educator, Portland, OR

As a high school Health Science teacher, I see the importance of teaching students effective ways of dealing with stress in their lives, being mindful of their attitudes and behaviors and developing techniques to focus on the moment at hand. My three classes of sophomores enjoyed the interactive activities and conversations that Caverly shared with them. The knowledge and experience gained through the ‘Peace in Schools’ program will be helpful to my students in maintaining healthier lives and assist them in dealing with daily hassles and making necessary adjustments in their lives.

Comments from my students, about their experience of One House of Peace, included a suggestion to implement the relaxation, focusing and breathing exercises in classes to better prepare them for more successful learning. I couldn’t agree more … it benefits the teacher as well!

~ Mary Beard, Health Science Department for Benson High School, Portland, OR

“(Caverly and) One House of Peace has been a blessing at Cleveland HS this year helping a dedicated group of teachers to relax and refocus during lunch and showing many more students what meditation is at our health fair. Meditation is a beautiful art that has so much to offer. I’m glad Caverly has been able to spend time with us and we look forward to One House of Peace instilling more harmony in our building.”

~Joseph Blasher, HealthCorps Teacher for Cleveland High School, Portland, OR

“One summer school session I invited, no pleaded with, Caverly to speak to my group of 40 exceptional college Yoga students.  They were asking questions about meditation and consciousness that were well beyond me.  Since I had attended a meditation retreat with Caverly, I knew she could handle them.  The job required the right balance of approachability, down-to-earth reasoning, engaging content, and humor. She surprised me by getting their attention right away with pointed inquiries about thoughts of sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll, and they loved her for it and met her head on with questions and a lively discussion.  The students thought they were going to have a “nice meditation lady” come and lead them through some exercises, but instead they got Caverly “unleashed,” who clearly had come to get some real work done–with intelligence and laughter–in the short time that she had.

The opportunity of a captured/captivated audience of young people was not lost on her.  Above all, the students learned that meditation is not a passive practice, and that is precisely why it can help their lives.  The students responded immediately and were able to sit quietly in meditation for longer, and in more peace, than I had ever seen after she opened this gateway to awareness practice for them.”

Awareness Practice at Work

The interactive, multi-modal way the workshops are structured enriches the experience and the learning. The variety is great and includes meditation, one on one interactive sharing with the other participants, writing exercises along with quiet time to write, and group discussion. I love hearing the experiences, issues, and wisdom of the others in the class, and of course sharing mine. Caverly illuminates the “lessons” by sharing her knowledge and her experience with us.

~Lillian, Policy Analyst at Nonprofit Association

We were delighted to host Caverly Morgan recently for our SaVRID Insight series entitled, “A Taste Of Health”.  Caverly charmed our audience of sign language interpreters and deaf members by giving us a “taste” of Awareness Practice, which we can easily incorporate into daily healthy living.  As the field of sign language interpreting can be quite stressful and demanding with little time for focus on self-care, it is vital that our profession learns techniques in grounding ourselves, through breath work, and mindfulness.  Caverly was the ideal instructor for our group as we were able to get a hands on demonstration of Awareness techniques with her expert guidance. We look forward to having Caverly back again in the future!

~Teresa, Executive Director, Healthy CEUs, Inc.

When I first met Caverly, my life was wrought with fear and anxiety masked as stress. I was dependent upon narcotics to sleep at night and I would wake with heart palpitations. On the surface I appeared to be a happy, successful, driven individual yet under the surface I was absolutely miserable. Fragile. My tagline for life was “how am I gonna?” How am I gonna finish this project on time? How am I gonna pass my final exam? How am I gonna deal with my boss? How am I gonna get my daughter to soccer on time? I was a person floating through life believing my existence depended upon the task at hand, the too many tasks at hand.

Through the time we have practiced together, I have learned so much from Caverly it is difficult to put into words. Yet the results are measurable. I now sleep comfortably without any medical assistance. I wake feeling rested and happy. Heart palpations are gone. My hair is no longer falling out. My relationships have improved. I have learned that my job really does not matter. It doesn’t decide whether I am happy and fulfilled in life nor does my boss. I am able to take a step back and realize what is working in my life and what isn’t. From the place of self-acceptance I am able to make decisions that take care of me without fear or guilt or anger. I am a better mother. Instead of coming home and watching TV all night while having a beer (or three) to relax, I am present with my daughter talking with her and enjoying her. Most excitingly, I am doing things to actively take care of myself like yoga or walking the dog and of course meditating. Activities that sound simple, yet I was so wound up in my own stress I didn’t have the energy to do. When I start to slide back into old habits, I am able to recognize it and return to where I want to be without beating myself up about it.

Caverly’s approach is subtle yet profound. She is casual and funny; direct and gentle. She’s able to share her wisdom and knowledge and in such a way that reminds you she too is practicing. Meditation is a lifelong practice.

~Stephanie, Affordable Housing Developer

Through my meditation practice I realized that while I am successful small business owner, the words “I’m busy” are over used. I have been using my work as an excuse to be disengaged. I see now that these two words “I’m busy” have helped to create areas of isolation in my life. It has also allowed for endless excuses about lack of time to exercise, or even cook for myself. I have found that the more I practice meditation the more aware I am of when my life starts shifting out of balance. I now have the tools to return to balance when I need to.
